Kane Parsons’ horror feature, The Backrooms, has officially surpassed $400 million in worldwide ticket sales. Based on the young director’s viral internet series, the film marks another resounding triumph for the independent studio A24. This achievement is particularly impressive given the movie’s relatively modest production budget.

Released in late May, The Backrooms debuted to $81 million in the U.S., setting a new opening-weekend record for A24. The film accumulated $118 million globally during its first few days, with its total worldwide haul soaring to $212 million in just over a week and a half.

The narrative follows Clark (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a furniture store owner who uncovers a hidden passage leading to an expansive, liminal dimension of endless, sterile rooms. Following his sudden disappearance, his therapist, Mary Kline (Renate Reinsve), ventures into the void to track him down.
