Tekken 8 Director Kohei Ikeda Departs Bandai Namco After 20 Years

Tekken 8 development team leadership

Kohei Ikeda, the veteran lead and creative force behind Tekken 8, has officially announced his departure from Bandai Namco. This move marks the end of an impressive two-decade tenure at the studio. His exit follows the high-profile departure of long-standing director and producer Katsuhiro Harada late last year, signaling a major changing of the guard for the storied fighting game franchise.

While Ikeda did not disclose specific reasons for his resignation, his farewell message was one of gratitude, reflecting on twenty years of contributions while extending his full confidence to the successors now steering the Tekken series.

“I am incredibly proud to have crafted experiences alongside such talented individuals who poured their passion into this craft,” Ikeda shared in his statement. “Although my tenure as Game Director concludes here, the core philosophy of the Tekken Project—prioritizing our fans and fostering a collaborative relationship with the community—will remain steadfast. I have passed the torch to an exceptional team that is more than capable of guiding Tekken’s future. As I look toward new horizons, I plan to continue my journey as a game developer, embracing fresh challenges.”
