DC Studios’ “Supergirl” saw its box office earnings plummet during its second weekend, pulling in just $8.6 million in the U.S. According to industry reports, this marks a staggering 77% drop.
The film has barely managed to cross the $100 million threshold globally, with $58.5 million coming from the North American market and $42 million from international territories. These figures are particularly concerning given that the production budget was estimated at $170–180 million, excluding substantial marketing expenses.
Directed by Craig Gillespie (“Cruella”), “Supergirl” follows Kara Zor-El (Milly Alcock), Superman’s cousin, whose formative years were marked by significant hardship. Her story takes a dramatic turn as she faces a formidable new adversary, Krem of the Yellow Hills, portrayed by Matthias Schoenaerts.
Previously, it was reported that Gillespie faced notable creative friction with DC leadership. According to insiders, the final cut of the film was completed by James Gunn and his production team.
