Capcom has unveiled the initial commercial performance for Resident Evil Requiem. However, the publisher notably omitted a specific timeframe regarding the duration it took to reach this milestone.
Official reports indicate that the title has already surpassed 5 million units sold. This represents a monumental achievement for the ninth mainline installment in the storied, three-decade-old Resident Evil saga.
This latest result sets a new record for the franchise’s launch phase. No previous entry has managed to move 5 million copies within its opening days. For context, high-profile titles like Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil Village took four and five months, respectively, to hit the same benchmark.
Historically, earlier iterations in the series required significantly more time to achieve such volume. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard accumulated 3 million sales after several weeks, while Resident Evil 6 took five months to reach the 4.9 million mark, despite a massive day-one shipment of 4.5 million units.
Previously, Resident Evil 5 held the record for the fastest climb to the 5-million-unit threshold, accomplishing the feat in roughly two months.
While these are only early figures, maintaining this momentum could lead to a significant reshuffling of the franchise’s all-time sales rankings. Currently, the top spots are held by Resident Evil 2 (16.8 million), Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (16.4 million), and Resident Evil Village (13.5 million).
