Stills from the “Carrie” series have been released

Prime Video has unveiled the first official images from its upcoming television adaptation of Stephen King’s classic novel, “Carrie.” This latest reimagining, helmed by visionary director Mike Flanagan (known for “The Haunting of Hill House” and “Doctor Sleep”), is slated for release this autumn.

The titular role of the tormented teenager is portrayed by Summer H. Howell (“Curse of Chucky”). The story follows Carrie, who faces relentless bullying from both her classmates and her deeply religious, overbearing mother. As her ordeal intensifies, she begins to manifest burgeoning telekinetic powers, leading to a harrowing path of vengeance against those who wronged her.

The creative team has introduced significant departures from the source material. The series is set in the modern era, heavily incorporating social media and digital technology into the narrative. Furthermore, this version expands the scope of the phenomenon, as Carrie is not the only teenager gifted with telekinetic abilities. The first season is slated for an eight-episode run and features a talented supporting cast, including Samantha Sloyan, Amber Midthunder, and Matthew Lillard.

The most iconic adaptation of “Carrie” remains Brian De Palma’s 1976 feature film, which starred Sissy Spacek. The story was also previously reimagined in 2013 with Chloë Grace Moretz in the leading role.
