DC Studios previously said that Matt Reeves had temporarily stepped away from the set for family reasons.

Steven Soderbergh, known for Ocean’s Eleven, will lead the final weeks of principal photography on The Batman Part II with Robert Pattinson. According to Deadline, Soderbergh offered to help Reeves, who has temporarily left the set for family reasons and cannot yet return to filming.

A DC Studios statement says Soderbergh will work closely with Reeves, the cast, and the crew to preserve the original vision for the film. Soderbergh also stressed that he does not plan to change the creative direction of the movie:

“Matt Reeves’ work on The Batman impressed me. It showed clear vision, precision, and rigorous consistency. Our job is to work with Matt and his team to shoot material that blends seamlessly with what has already been filmed, so that Matt can finish his movie.”

For some fans, the situation recalls Justice League, which Zack Snyder also had to leave for family reasons. There are no details yet about why Reeves is temporarily absent, and the director said he is not abandoning the film. He will continue to direct the London shoot remotely from Los Angeles and then return to the film for post-production:

“I want to be clear: I am not leaving The Batman Part II. I am deeply grateful to Steven for coming to my aid during this difficult time and helping to finish principal photography. Thank you all for your concern and kind wishes.”

The international release of The Batman Part II is still set for February 18, 2028. Production has already faced delays, and the temporary change of director now adds to them. It is not yet known whether this will lead to a third postponement of the release.
