New York Comic Con treated fans to an early glimpse of season 4 of Strange New Worlds, releasing a four-minute sequence that plunges the U.S.S. Enterprise into serious peril. Paramount Plus promptly uploaded the clip to YouTube for wider viewing.

The excerpt opens with the bridge crew watching a striking cosmic storm from a cautious distance. Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), first officer Una Chin-Riley (Rebecca Romijn), chief of security La’An Noonien-Singh (Christina Chong), and communications officer Nyota Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding) share a mix of awe and concern, while a recently introduced Vulcan points out that the incoming telemetry is more consequential than the spectacle itself.

Trouble erupts when sensors pick up a distress buoy lodged inside the storm. Helmsman Erica Ortegas (Melissa Navia) brings the Enterprise closer despite an engineering alert that the ship is operating beyond safe limits. The bridge is repeatedly tossed as the storm tightens, and the vessel becomes trapped in a powerless warp field. With the main systems offline, the crew dispatches a shuttle to a nearby M-class world to locate iridium needed to revive the warp drive.

Of course, being Star Trek, the away team’s mission could lead to any number of complications: hostile native lifeforms, inhabitants who demand an unsettling bargain, or the revelation that the crew is caught in a loop and were the ones who originally deployed the beacon.

No official premiere date for Strange New Worlds season 4 has been announced; filming finished earlier this summer, so a release likely isn’t far off. Meanwhile, production has already begun on the series’ fifth and final season.
