At New York Comic Con, Paramount hosted a panel celebrating Star Trek’s 60th anniversary. Before the panel moved on to a conversation between Ben Stiller and William Shatner, cast and crew members from Star Trek: Starfleet Academy came on stage to tease the second and final season and reveal when it will air.

When will Star Trek: Starfleet Academy return?

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Season 2 received a March 2027 release window, which means it will air about a year after the first season wrapped. A trailer for the second season has not been released yet, although a clip featuring one of the new characters was shown to the panel attendees.

Onstage, executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau, along with several actors from the main cast, teased what viewers can expect from the next season. Nahla’s parents will appear in at least one episode. Bill Nighy will play her father, and Rosmarie DeWitt will play her mother. Holly Hunter, who portrays Nahla on Starfleet Academy, will also play Nahla’s twin sister in that episode.

Variety reported earlier this year that the second season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will be its last, meaning it will not run as long as many other Star Trek shows. Nobody acknowledged this during the panel, but they did not dispute it either. The actors on stage appeared excited to get a second go-around with their characters so they could better understand them and evolve them in new ways.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Season 2 will premiere on Paramount Plus in March 2027 and is expected to consist of ten episodes. For those curious about other announcements at New York Comic Con, Blumhouse teased its upcoming lineup of horror films, and a first look was revealed for the next Marvel Comics-themed set of Magic: The Gathering cards.
