“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” becomes the highest-grossing film in U.S. history

The comic book adaptation “Spider-Man: A New Day” has officially claimed the title of the highest-grossing film in the history of the U.S. box office.

With a domestic haul of $936.7 million, the movie has surpassed the previous record-holder, 2015’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” ($936 million). However, industry analysts remain skeptical that the film can reach the $1 billion domestic milestone without the benefit of a theatrical re-release.

Globally, the blockbuster has amassed $2.452 billion, securing its position as the third highest-grossing movie of all time, trailing only “Avatar” and “Avengers: Endgame.” This fourth installment in the franchise follows Peter Parker (Tom Holland) as he faces fresh and perilous new challenges.

The film features an ensemble cast including Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, and Mark Ruffalo, under the direction of Destin Daniel Cretton (“Shang-Chi”).
