Paramount Pictures and Sega have officially solidified the branding for next year’s highly anticipated sequel. Eschewing rumored subtitles such as Sonic CD, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, or more eccentric fan theories, the production has landed on a straightforward title: Sonic the Hedgehog 4.

While the nomenclature may follow a traditional path, the returning ensemble is anything but ordinary. Reprising their roles for the fourth outing are Jim Carrey as the iconic Dr. Robotnik, Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, and Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails. They are joined once again by Idris Elba’s Knuckles, Keanu Reeves’ Shadow, James Marsden as Tom Wachowski, Tika Sumpter as Maddie, and Lee Majdoub as the ever-faithful Agent Stone. As previously confirmed, Kristen Bell will make her debut in the franchise as the fan-favorite Amy Rose. Director Jeff Fowler also returns, marking his fourth consecutive turn at the helm of the series.

The production has further bolstered its vocal powerhouse with the addition of Sir Ben Kingsley, Matt Berry, Nick Offerman, and Richard Ayoade in roles that currently remain shrouded in mystery.

A recently released teaser for the title reveal offers little in the way of narrative exposition, focusing instead on the arrival of Amy Rose. The film’s logo prominently features a pink “4,” a nod to her signature color and her iconic Piko Piko Hammer. Beyond this introduction, audiences can expect the franchise’s hallmark blend of high-speed chases, anthropomorphic heroes, and the search for the powerful Chaos Emeralds.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is scheduled to sprint into theaters on March 19, 2027. Paramount is also expanding the “Sonic Cinematic Universe” with a currently untitled spin-off feature, which is tentatively slated for release on December 22, 2028.

The conclusion of the third installment left fans with several lingering questions, specifically regarding the introduction of Metal Sonic and the ultimate fate of Dr. Robotnik. While the finale of Sonic 3 left Robotnik’s survival in question, Carrey’s confirmed return ensures the mad scientist will continue to plague the Blue Blur, though the specific circumstances of his comeback are yet to be revealed.
