Steam to Add New Trophy System to Address Old Achievement Issue

Steam has launched a beta test for achievement sets, allowing trophies to be grouped by category, tracked separately for add-ons, and preserved without losing progress when new content is released.

Steam has started beta testing achievement sets, a new system that groups trophies by category, tracks add-ons separately, and avoids resetting progress after new content arrives.

Developers will be able to combine achievements into sets as they see fit. For example, they can separate single-player and multiplayer challenges or create distinct categories for character classes. Each set will feature its own progress bar and profile trophy.

The system provides main game and add-on sets. Achievements from DLC will not affect the statistics of users who do not own the corresponding content. Developers can also archive seasonal and temporary achievements so they remain with players who unlocked them without impacting the progress of others.

The updated achievements page lets users filter challenges, compare results with three friends, and monitor completed sets. The Perfect Games section will be renamed to Completed, and the perfectionist showcase will begin factoring in games with fully completed sets.

The beta version is available to players and developers. Among the first supported games are Portal 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Euro Truck Simulator 2, Forza Horizon 5, and Crusader Kings III. More details are available via the link.
