Rachel Zegler — known for Snow White and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes — has been chosen to play singer Gloria Estefan in the forthcoming biopic.
The film will be titled On Your Feet and is set for international distribution by Sony Pictures. Estefan herself confirmed Zegler’s casting in an interview with the British tabloid The Sun.
“I think she’s incredible — truly remarkable. I know she’s made an impression in Evita [a new London production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical — ed.]. We’re still working through the ‘approval’ process and deciding where and how we’ll film. This project has been in development for several years,” the singer said.
Estefan was born in Cuba in 1957. She has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide and is the recipient of eight Grammy Awards. The biopic will be directed by Lissett Felisiano (known for the film “Unsuccessful Women”). A release date has not yet been announced.
