Amazon’s adaptation of the iconic Tomb Raider game franchise is gradually revealing more details.
According to Deadline, Sigourney Weaver — famed for roles in Alien, Avatar and numerous other films — is in negotiations to join the cast of the upcoming Tomb Raider series for Prime Video. Specifics about the character she might portray have not been disclosed.
Lara Croft, the series’ treasure-hunting protagonist, is set to be played by Sophie Turner, best known for her work on Game of Thrones. Phoebe Waller-Bridge will serve as writer and executive producer, while Chad Hodge and Jonathan van Tulleken are attached as showrunners and producers.
Production is scheduled to begin on January 19, 2026, though plot details remain tightly under wraps. Early summaries promise an “epic, globe-spanning adventure” inspired by the classic games.
Information from Story Kitchen — a production company involved with the series — indicates the show will exist within the official Tomb Raider canon. It has not yet been clarified whether it will tie into upcoming entries in the game franchise or connect to previously released titles.
It’s possible further information will surface around the announcement of the next Tomb Raider game, which Crystal Dynamics is reportedly developing in collaboration with Amazon. That game is expected to be revealed at The Game Awards 2025, taking place overnight from December 11 to December 12.
