Actress Sigourney Weaver appeared as a guest at New York Comic Con. During a conversation with attendees she spoke about the possibility of returning to the role of Ellen Ripley in the Alien franchise.
Weaver said she recently met with representatives from Disney and 20th Century Studios. She has also reviewed roughly 50 pages of a new script penned by series producer and co-writer Walter Hill.
“I don’t know whether it will happen, but I had a meeting with Fox or Disney… I never felt the need to return to the role. I always thought, ‘Let her rest, let her recover.’ What Walter has written feels very true to me, because it says a lot about a society that robs people of their freedom… I’m considering working with Walter to see how the rest of the story unfolds,” Weaver remarked.
Ellen Ripley has appeared in Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection. The most recent feature in the franchise, the spinoff Alien: Romulus, was released in 2024.
This December Weaver is set to appear in the next Avatar film, the third installment, subtitled “Flame and Ash.”
