George R. R. Martin’s on-screen world is set to expand with a new Game of Thrones spinoff adapted from the Dunk and Egg novellas.
The series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is slated to debut in January. At New York Comic Con, showrunner Ira Parker confessed that while crafting the first season she had one viewer foremost in mind — George R. R. Martin himself.
“They say you can’t write for everyone — pick one person and write for them. For this first season, I wrote for George. If he’s pleased, then I’m pleased.”.
The gambit appears to have paid off. Martin noted on his blog that he has already seen all six episodes and was thrilled.
“Dunk and Egg have always been my favorites, and the actors cast in those roles are extraordinary. The rest of the ensemble is impressive as well. Just wait until you meet the Laughing Storm and Tanselle Highhill.”.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is scheduled to premiere on January 18, 2026 on HBO.
