Shania Twain Discusses Zedd’s Remix of You’re Still the One for Candy Crush

Nearly three decades after reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, Shania Twain’s classic love song “You’re Still the One” is receiving a dance makeover from Zedd as part of Candy Crush Music Season 2026.

The track retains Twain’s original vocal from the 1997 album Come On Over while incorporating Zedd’s dance-oriented production. Twain tells Billboard that she finds the new platform flattering.

“It’s a great, new, exciting platform for the song, for my classic, and I’m flattered by it,” Twain tells Billboard.

Released originally on Twain’s 1997 album Come On Over, “You’re Still the One” spent 42 weeks on the Hot 100 and earned Twain two Grammy Awards for best country song and best female country vocal performance.

An interactive music video accompanies the release, placing listeners into a Western-inspired setting called Candy Country that features hidden clues, rewards, and chances to win VIP tour trips or look-inspired items.

Twain admits the concept initially surprised her.

“I would never have thought of that myself,” she says. “So I was excited about it. And it takes the song to a whole other place. It takes it to a different universe, is a good way to put it.”

Zedd built his production around the existing vocal so the song could sound fresh nearly 30 years after its debut without losing recognizable elements.

“I was really flexible. I’m just like, you know, ‘Do your thing!’” Twain says. “’You’re Zedd for a reason, and I’m excited about what you’re gonna do about it.’”

Zedd shares that he grew up listening to Twain.

“I was super happy Candy Crush brought me and Shania Twain together,” Zedd says. “She’s a legendary artist and I grew up listening to her music, so being able to collaborate with her on a new version of such an iconic song has been really special.”

Twain notes that Zedd respected the track while applying his musical magic.

“He really did respect ‘You’re Still the One,’” she says. “It’s just a very, very, very classic song and vocal with Zedd’s musical magic.”

Twain compares this evolution to Whitney Houston’s 1992 recording of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You,” pointing out how a track can undergo substantial production changes while remaining fundamentally intact.

“There’s a difference between [producer David] Foster and Houston’s version compared to Dolly Parton’s original,” she says. “It’s so different, but it was still the classic song that remained.”

Over the years, Twain has observed different generations embrace the track for weddings, anniversaries, and family connections.

“Every generation of listeners that take this song on, takes it on for different reasons,” she says.

She adds that watching the song take on personal meaning for other people deepens its value for her as a writer.

“You watch it become other people’s personal experience,” she says.

The Candy Crush integration introduces yet another phase for the track through video game mechanics like hunting for hidden blue sugar stars.

“I’m watching it now go to another journey, part of its journey, another phase of its journey,” Twain says.

When asked if the project interests her in reimagining more of her catalog, Twain expresses enthusiasm.

“Absolutely. I really look forward to more of that,” she says.

She envisions her catalog expanding into film, theater, and other creative genres.

“I just love to watch it morph and adapt to new platforms and to new genres,” she says. “I just think it’s a never-ending journey creatively.”

Twain likens the adaptation process to visual art.

“Once there’s a concept, it can just be a never-ending, beautiful cycle down the generations,” she says.

“You’re Still the One” continues its trajectory from a 1990s country-pop staple to a dance record and gaming experience.

“It’s on a real fun journey,” Twain says.
