In a recent profile for The New York Times, actor and filmmaker Seth Rogen revealed that he has not maintained any contact with his former collaborator and friend, James Franco.
Following allegations of sexual misconduct brought against Franco by students at his acting school in 2018, the actor settled the resulting lawsuit for over $2 million. Since the scandal broke, Rogen has distanced himself from his long-time creative partner.
Honestly, the nuances of this situation are so personal that I don’t feel I can truly unpack them. It’s a deeply private matter. There is a public dimension that I have addressed before, and my public stance remains unchanged. However, the personal side is incredibly delicate and involves other people, so I am not sure it is my place to pull them into this. I see no benefit in dwelling on it further. Nothing has changed since I last spoke about this; I haven’t worked with him for a long time, and I have no intentions of doing so in the future,
— Rogen stated. The duo’s professional relationship dates back to the late 1990s, when they co-starred in the cult classic series “Freaks and Geeks.” They later became staples of one another’s filmographies, appearing together in comedies such as “Knocked Up,” “Pineapple Express,” “This Is the End,” and “The Interview” (pictured), among others.
While Franco has reportedly made attempts to reconcile with Rogen, those efforts have proved unsuccessful. It was recently reported that Franco is set to return to the screen in a top-secret Hollywood blockbuster slated for release in the spring or summer of 2027. Meanwhile, Rogen is currently focused on production for the second season of the Apple TV+ series “Platonic.”
