Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice adaptation receives new trailer ahead of theatrical premiere

A limited theatrical run for the anime set in the FromSoftware universe begins this autumn.

Kadokawa released a new trailer for Sekiro: No Defeat, an anime based on the action game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. The video announces the theatrical release and features landscapes of an alternate Sengoku-era Japan, showing the shinobi Wolf and his young lord Kuro. It also includes brief snippets of combat scenes that recreate battles from the original game.

The official synopsis follows the plot of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. The story takes place in the Ashina lands twenty years after Isshin Ashina seized power through a coup. With the Central Ministry threatening the state, Isshin’s grandson Genichiro kidnaps the Divine Heir to secure a forbidden power. Wolf—the boy’s loyal bodyguard—remains the only hope for his rescue.

Studio Qzil.la produces the project. Kenichi Kutsuna directs the anime, having previously worked on The Fire Hunter, Magical Destroyers, and Love Vlad. Takuya Sato wrote the script, known for his work on Selector Infected WIXOSS and Fate/stay night. Takahiro Kishida handles character design after his contributions to Haikyuu and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind.

Sekiro: No Defeat premieres in Japanese theaters on September 4, 2026. The anime will later arrive on streaming platforms, though the release date remains unannounced.
