SCS On The Road: Iceland Research Trip

A few weeks ago, we published a retrospective detailing our exploratory research trip to Iceland, highlighting the initial impressions of our map designers. Today, we are thrilled to unveil a brand-new, comprehensive episode of SCS On The Road. This immersive feature offers an intimate look at our expedition, showcasing breathtaking cinematic shots of Iceland’s dramatic terrain alongside fascinating direct comparisons with our in-development virtual map.

Accompanied by our dedicated marketing crew, the level designers set out to capture the essence of this Nordic paradise. Renowned for its otherworldly topography, Iceland provided the team with access to extraordinary locations that are currently being meticulously translated into the upcoming map expansion.

Achieving absolute authenticity requires rigorous groundwork. To ensure every virtual landmark and rolling horizon mirrors reality, the team gathered extensive visual references on-site. Throughout the video, the designers share exclusive behind-the-scenes commentary regarding their workflow, offering a glimpse into specific points of interest—keep your eyes peeled for an upcoming hidden route featuring a precarious narrow bridge leading toward the majestic Þingvellir National Park!

We extend our sincere gratitude to Volvo Trucks and Skúli, a seasoned Icelandic professional driver. Their invaluable assistance allowed our team to experience the rugged terrain from an authentic vantage point: the passenger seat of a powerhouse 780-horsepower Volvo FH16 XXL.
