Scania 45 R electric truck: SCS test drive and ETS2 context

SCS Software visited the Scania Demo Centre in Södertälje, Sweden, to film a walk-around and test ride in the battery-electric Scania 45 R. Oscar, SCS’s Director of Global Partnerships, joined Scania expert engineer Fredrik Sundén for an introduction to the truck and a drive on the centre’s test track.

Scania 45 R powertrain and battery

Scania’s Northern Lightning technical material lists the 45 R with 450 kW of continuous electric-machine output, up to 511 kW maximum output, and 3,500 Nm of torque. Three permanent-magnet motors work with a six-speed automated gearbox.

The largest listed battery configuration has 624 kWh gross and 468 kWh usable capacity. Scania gives indicative ranges of up to 350 km at a 40-tonne gross combination weight and 250 km at 64 tonnes, with CCS2 charging at up to 375 kW. Payload, speed, terrain, temperature, and charging conditions can change the distance achieved in service.

The real and virtual demo centres

The Södertälje facility includes asphalt, gravel, and forest sections for demonstrating trucks and buses. SCS recreated the test track at one-to-one scale for Euro Truck Simulator 2 update 1.50. Access to the in-game location requires the Scandinavia DLC because the centre is placed in the Swedish part of that expansion.

The real drive showed cab access, visibility, low-speed response, and interior sound levels. It also demonstrated how SCS studies licensed vehicles and locations before building related content for ETS2.

Which electric Scanias were in ETS2

When SCS published the episode in July 2024, the electric Scania 40 S and 45 S were available in Euro Truck Simulator 2 through Quick Jobs. The 45 R in the video was described as their smaller-cab counterpart and was not announced as a player-owned truck. Current availability depends on later game updates and should be checked in SCS release notes.
