“Scary Movie 6” could set a box office record

The parody comedy Scary Movie 6 has enjoyed a robust start at the domestic box office, with analysts projecting it could secure the most successful opening in the franchise’s history. The film is expected to pull in upwards of $45 million during its premiere weekend, with optimistic estimates suggesting it could climb as high as $60 million.

Should these projections hold, the latest installment is set to eclipse the record previously held by Scary Movie 3, which brought in approximately $49 million during its opening week back in 2003.

Conversely, the fantasy blockbuster Masters of the Universe is struggling to gain momentum. Despite an extensive marketing blitz and a production budget exceeding $170 million, the adaptation of He-Man’s adventures is currently tracking for a modest $25–35 million opening weekend. The film may find itself trailing not only Scary Movie 6 but also established horror hits currently in theaters, such as The Backrooms and Obsession, both of which have emerged as standout summer successes.
