Satirical Thriller “Sacrifice” Starring Chris Evans to be Released in Russia
The film distribution company Volga has acquired the rights to the satirical thriller Sacrifice. Starring Chris Evans and Anya Taylor-Joy, the movie is scheduled to premiere in Russian theaters on August 20.
Following its world debut at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival, the project received a lukewarm reception from critics, currently holding a 37% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The narrative centers on Mike (Evans), a struggling actor who is invited to an exclusive fundraising gala held near an active volcano. The event takes a dark turn when a group of radical activists, led by Joan (Taylor-Joy), invades the venue. Driven by apocalyptic zeal, they intend to sacrifice three wealthy attendees—Mike included—to hasten the end of the world.
Directed by French filmmaker Romain Gavras (known for Athena), the ensemble cast also features Salma Hayek, Vincent Cassel, John Malkovich, as well as musicians Charli XCX and Yung Lean.
