Samson Is Not GTA: Developers Explain Game’s Scale and Price

Following the recent debut of new footage for Samson, several players were quick to label the project “the next GTA,” prompting the developers to clarify the true scope of the game.

In a recent interview, Liquid Swords studio head Christofer Sundberg noted that while such comparisons are not unwelcome, it is essential for the audience to recognize the difference in scale and ambition.

According to Sundberg, the concept of debt is far more than a simple narrative trope; it serves as a relentless, crushing pressure that defines the player’s journey.

The development team drew inspiration from a diverse range of titles: Hardspace: Shipbreaker influenced the central theme of financial burden, Mad Max inspired the vehicular focus (with the lead car even inheriting the name “Magnum Opus”), and the Batman: Arkham series served as the blueprint for the combat mechanics. The game will feature eight distinct mission types and over 30 combat arenas, many of which are designed for high-octane vehicular action.

The creators describe Samson as a compact, high-intensity action title rather than an expansive sandbox experience in the vein of Grand Theft Auto. The main campaign is expected to last roughly 10 hours, with completionists potentially reaching 25 hours of playtime. The game is slated to launch with a $25 price tag.
