Sam Smith has unveiled their highly anticipated fifth studio album, Hazel Eyes, set to captivate listeners later this summer. Drawing heavy inspiration from the romantic energy of New York City, the record promises to be a deeply personal reflection of the artist’s journey.
During a Wednesday announcement, Smith confirmed the project will debut on August 21 via Capitol Records. Alongside this news came the arrival of the lead single, “My Guy”—a vulnerable, heartfelt composition that captures the essence of Smith’s experiences within the iconic metropolis.
Reflecting on the track, Smith shared, “This song feels like a culmination of a lifetime of waiting to write and perform. Created among dear friends during a sun-drenched New York afternoon, the melody seemed to arrive effortlessly. In a world that can often feel detached, I hope this recording offers a sense of genuine warmth and connection.”
Hazel Eyes stands as one of Smith’s most intimate bodies of work to date. Produced alongside longtime collaborator Simon Aldred, the 12-track collection also features creative contributions from the brilliant Feist and multi-instrumentalist Shahzad Ismaily.
“This record is profoundly special,” Smith noted. “Developed over three years with a tight-knit circle of friends, it marks a significant evolution in my artistry. By taking on a producer role, I’ve been able to walk with this music through every stage of its creation, pushing my creative boundaries at every turn.”
The build-up to this era began last year with the exclusive To Be Free residency. These intimate shows, hosted in Brooklyn and San Francisco, offered fans a first look at new material and featured notable surprise guests such as Hozier, Ed Sheeran, and Brandi Carlile.
