According to Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman, the next installment in the iconic Alien franchise has secured a screenwriter.
Brian Duffield, known for his work on No One Will Save You and Love and Monsters, is reportedly stepping into the role. It remains unclear whether he is drafting a direct sequel to the 2024 hit Alien: Romulus or developing an entirely standalone entry. The project is currently being overseen by 20th Century Studios.
Previous reports suggested that production on the next chapter has faced delays due to the uncompromising creative stance of Ridley Scott, the franchise’s creator and executive producer. Fede Álvarez’s spin-off, Alien: Romulus, proved a commercial success, grossing over $350 million worldwide. Following Álvarez’s departure from the director’s chair in 2025, speculation surfaced that Sébastien Vaniček (Evil Dead Rise) was being eyed as a potential successor, though no official appointments have been confirmed.
Duffield is set to release his upcoming action-thriller, Whalefall, this October.
