Rumors suggest Riot Games is developing League of Legends 2, with a potential release in 2026. Insider Summoner Park reported the news; their post was later removed but was archived by an X user named Igenico.
According to the post, the sequel is being built on a new engine and will fully eliminate legacy code. The team plans to refresh the game’s core content while preserving the familiar gameplay, and to carry out extensive optimization and champion rebalancing. At the same time, champions’ distinctive abilities and personalities will be retained.
Sources emphasize that League of Legends 2 won’t fundamentally change the original’s formula, focusing instead on technical modernization and performance improvements.
The big question is how Riot will migrate more than 170 champions into the sequel and what will happen to players’ accumulated cosmetics, statistics, and rankings. Similar transitions have caused issues for other titles like Overwatch and Counter-Strike, but given the age of the original, a comprehensive update to LoL appears to be a sensible step for the franchise’s future.
