Blizzard Cancels Future Diablo IV Expansions to Focus on Diablo V

Blizzard does not plan to release new expansions for Diablo IV, choosing instead to focus on seasons and preparation for Diablo V, which is scheduled for release in 2029.

The story of Diablo V will take place 100 years after the events of Diablo IV, but prior to that, Blizzard will continue developing the current game through seasons.

Game Director Brent Gibson stated:

We are all focused on [Diablo IV] seasons and moving toward Diablo V.

According to him, the “story of Hatred” concluded alongside Mephisto, and the team is now transitioning to the “story of Terror.”

At the same time, the story of Diablo IV is not yet finished. Blizzard wants to gradually connect the game’s events with Diablo V while taking player feedback from season to season into account.

This gives us plenty of opportunities to keep moving forward together with the fans and see where the story might go.

Gibson promised that Diablo IV will receive support for a “very long time.” He cited Diablo 2: Resurrected as an example.
