Roblox Rolls Out Massive Updates at RDC 2026

Comment Views: 21

This week marks the 12th annual Roblox Developers Conference (RDC), an exclusive gathering held in the Bay Area for the platform’s burgeoning creator ecosystem. During the event, the San Mateo-headquartered corporation rolled out a comprehensive suite of updates designed to broaden access to user-generated experiences while equipping developers with advanced production utilities and fresh monetization avenues.

These latest announcements deliberately sidestep ongoing scrutiny regarding youth safety on Roblox, an issue that has continually dogged the platform domestically and internationally over recent weeks, despite the June deployment of revised age-restricted account tiers. Even amid these regulatory headwinds, the platform maintains staggering engagement metrics. According to corporate briefing materials shared with Polygon, participants logged an astounding 29 billion hours across more than 180 countries during the preceding quarter alone.

Here is an overview of the pivotal transformations heading to Roblox straight from this year’s conference:

Expanding Accessibility and Gameplay Horizons

  • Creators gain the flexibility to package their creations as independent applications across mobile, PC, and consoles, backed by underlying infrastructure and services powered directly by Roblox.
  • Before the year concludes, players will enjoy seamless in-browser launching, turning any shared URL into an immediate gateway from discovery straight into active gameplay.
  • Developers can seamlessly blend online interactivity with offline capabilities within a single project, paving the way for dedicated single-player narratives and disconnected sessions.
  • The engine is evolving to comprehensively support two-dimensional projects via the introduction of an orthographic camera, dynamic image containers, and native sprite-sheet importing.

Next-Generation Development and Creation Utilities

  • Build—an integrated feature within the Roblox ecosystem enabling users to instantly generate and publish games using text commands—is expanding its public alpha test to Singapore and Serbia. Furthermore, the platform is introducing expanded oversight mechanisms, featuring a comprehensive asset library, desktop integration, and refined iterative controls.
  • Rolling out later this season, the new Scene Generator will inject text-to-scene capabilities directly into Build and Studio, offering advanced granular control for professional creators utilizing Studio.
  • Roblox is significantly enhancing artificial intelligence capabilities for NPCs, introducing two distinct behavioral archetypes prior to year’s end, including automated playtesting characters.

Advanced Revenue and Financial Ecosystems

  • Tailored to scale alongside creator enterprises, the Roblox Wallet enables developers to earn directly in sovereign currencies, receive automated business-day disbursements, transfer assets across accounts, and review granular revenue telemetry via the Creator Hub. Airwallex, the underlying financial services partner, remains currently unsupported across five U.S. jurisdictions: New York, Nevada, Hawaii, Indiana, and Wisconsin. When pressed regarding operational compliance in these regions, corporate representatives clarified to Polygon that “For some U.S. customers, they partner with trusted domestic financial institutions to deliver payment services.”
  • Tied directly to the Wallet framework, the upcoming Roblox Card will allow creators to spend available funds anywhere standard debit solutions are accepted, slated for a 2027 rollout. “The Roblox Card operates like a standard debit card tethered to a Roblox Wallet, granting creators access to their liquidity for real-world expenditures at any retailer accepting major credit networks. It functions strictly as a debit instrument without any attached credit lines or loan facilities,” a company spokesperson specified to Polygon.
