Microsoft Turns Windows 11 Into an Xbox and Speeds Up PC Games
Microsoft is testing an updated Xbox app for Windows 11 with an interface modeled on the Xbox Series X/S, while also working to improve system performance in games.
Windows Central journalists have already tried an early version of the app. They noted a “huge performance improvement over its predecessor.” The changes were also assessed on the Xbox Ally handheld.
In most respects, this is a fantastic improvement. Right now we have access to an early version with some glitches and missing features (…) It will probably be released by the end of the year.
(…) As you can see, navigation is now much faster. One of the problems with the current app is lag when navigating. The new version no longer has that effect. (…) Everything simply works an order of magnitude faster. Everything works much better.
Microsoft is also optimizing Windows 11, including by reducing the load from background services to raise frame rates in games. Some of the improvements are expected to arrive in the 26H2 update, and further optimizations are still to come.
