Robert Pattinson Provides Reassuring Update on The Batman Part 2
DC fans were surprised recently by news that filming on The Batman Part 2 had been paused. DC Studios stated that production stopped because director Matt Reeves needed to address a family matter. This pause created worry about whether the film will be completed, especially since the recent Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Skydance merger raises questions about multiple projects. Robert Pattinson offered words of assurance to address these concerns.
At the U.K. premiere of his new film, Primetime, Pop Drop asked Pattinson about the state of The Batman Part 2. The actor acknowledged, “We’re pausing for a little bit,” but added, “We’re going to figure it all out.” That response makes his commitment to the project clear. The exact duration of the production pause remains unknown, but the scheduled Feb. 18, 2028 release date has not changed because of Reeves taking time away.
The Batman Part 2 has already faced multiple delays, missing its initial October 2025 release window. Specific plot details for the sequel remain under wraps, but set photos spark heavy speculation that the Court of Owls will appear. Colin Farrell, Jeffrey Wright, and Andy Serkis return alongside Pattinson to reprise their roles as The Penguin, Commissioner Gordon, and Alfred. New cast members include Sebastian Stan as Harvey Dent, Scarlett Johansson, and Charles Dance.
Will Robert Pattinson be James Gunn’s Batman in the new DCU?

The new DC cinematic universe operates under the leadership of James Gunn. David Corenswet stars as Superman and returns in next year’s Man of Tomorrow, but casting for Batman remains unannounced. Matt Reeves released his first film before Gunn took charge of DC Studios, meaning it was not planned as part of the new franchise. Gunn explained that the films remain outside the main canon because that is Reeves’ choice. Consequently, Pattinson is not the Batman of the DCU.
The active DC slate features The Brave and the Bold, which focuses on the Caped Crusader. Deadline reports that the film is currently in early development. Meanwhile, the character receives loose references in existing projects, including an off-hand mention in an episode of HBO’s Lanterns.
