Robbie Williams has addressed the viral moment from the World Cup Final where a white substance fell from his mouth onto his microphone, effectively silencing rumors that he was using illicit substances during the live broadcast.
In a lighthearted video shared on his Instagram this Monday (July 20), the singer filmed himself relaxing at home, offering a humorous take on the situation. “I’d like to offer my apologies for that stray object that landed on my mic yesterday,” he quipped.
“It was a bit of a faux pas, and I know some of you were concerned,” he added with a wink. “But fear not—I actually had a few more where that came from.”
To put the speculation to rest, Williams held up two breath mints to the camera, confirming that the mysterious speck was nothing more than an innocent piece of candy.
The incident gained traction after Williams performed at the World Cup closing ceremony on Sunday (July 19) at MetLife Stadium, following Argentina’s loss to Spain. During a subsequent interview with Magenta TV, the singer was seen removing a small white fleck from his microphone, which then inadvertently stuck to his forehead when he reached up to adjust his hair.
The moment triggered immediate chatter across social media, with many users speculating about the origin of the substance. Given Williams’ past transparency regarding his well-documented struggles with addiction during his Take That era, some viewers jumped to unfair conclusions. This candid video served as his definitive response to the gossip.
