20th Century Studios is reportedly hitting significant roadblocks in the development of the next installment in the Alien franchise. According to The InSneider, the search for a new director has stalled, with industry insiders pointing to Ridley Scott’s heavy-handed approach as a primary obstacle; the legendary producer is seemingly determined to exert strict creative control over the series’ trajectory.

The situation became more precarious following the departure of Fede Álvarez. While his film, Alien: Romulus, was a resounding commercial triumph—grossing roughly $350 million against an $80 million budget and effectively reigniting mainstream interest in the saga—the director opted to step away from the project during its early pre-production phase.

In the wake of his exit, the studio launched a hunt for a successor. While filmmakers like Sébastien Vaniček, noted for his work in the horror genre, were considered, talks reportedly failed to materialize. Sources close to the production suggest the stagnation is a direct result of Scott’s ongoing interference.

For years, Ridley Scott has remained vocal about his ambition to complete the prequel trilogy he initiated with Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. He remains particularly invested in bringing back Michael Fassbender’s character, the android David, to further explore his vision for the franchise.
