Driven by the surging costs of memory components, Retroid has been forced to discontinue the 12GB RAM version of its Pocket 6 handheld console. Additionally, the entry-level 8GB model has seen a price increase.
Retroid has shared some disappointing news for the gaming community. Due to significant volatility in the global semiconductor market—marked by persistent shortages and a sharp rise in the cost of both RAM and flash storage modules—the developers have had to adjust the pricing structure for the Retroid Pocket 6.
Starting today, the variant equipped with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage has increased in price by $15. The device is now listed at $244, up from its original $229 price tag.
Furthermore, the company has officially ceased production of the Pocket 6 model featuring 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The recent spike in component costs has reached a level that the manufacturers can no longer offset without passing significant expenses to the consumer.
Under the current economic climate for hardware parts, Retroid finds it impossible to maintain the 12GB version at a reasonable market price. However, the company intends to fulfill all existing orders and pre-orders already placed for this specific model.
