Resident Evil Requiem Sets New Series Record with Unprecedented Launch

Capcom has unveiled the initial commercial performance for Resident Evil Requiem. However, the publisher notably omitted one key detail: the exact timeframe in which these sales figures were achieved.

According to official reports, the game has already moved 5 million units. This represents a monumental milestone for the ninth main installment in the storied, three-decade-old Resident Evil franchise.

This debut sets a new record for the series’ history. No prior entry has managed to reach the 5 million mark within its opening days. By comparison, Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil Village took four and five months, respectively, to hit the same milestone.

Historically, previous titles required significantly more time to gain such traction. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard took several weeks to reach 3 million copies, while Resident Evil 6 hit 4.9 million after five months, despite shipping 4.5 million units on its first day.

Only Resident Evil 5 came close to this pace, surpassing the 5 million mark in approximately two months.

These figures only reflect the launch window. If sales momentum continues at this rate, the leaderboard of the franchise’s most successful titles could be completely reshaped. Currently, the top spots are held by Resident Evil 2 (16.8M), Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (16.4M), and Resident Evil Village (13.5M).
