Resident Evil and Weapons Star Admits He is Afraid of Horror Games

Austin Abrams got acquainted with Capcom’s franchise only after landing his lead role.

Austin Abrams, who plays the lead role in Zach Cregger’s new Resident Evil film, admitted that he knew almost nothing about the franchise before starting work on the project. The actor had not watched the previous film adaptations, and he did not even dare to approach the games because since childhood they seemed like something big and forbidden, akin to R-rated movies. Furthermore, it is not just about Resident Evil, as horror games are generally difficult for the actor to handle:

Abrams decided to familiarize himself with the games in the series during preparations for his role, although his character, a medical courier named Brian, was created specifically for the movie, and the picture itself tells an independent story within an alternate timeline.

Resident Evil is the second consecutive collaboration between Abrams and Zach Cregger following Weapons. Despite roles in The Tragedy of Girls, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, and other horror films, the actor does not strive to cement himself with the status of a scream king. According to him, he simply chooses projects that seem interesting to him at any given moment.
