Remedy Entertainment has officially pulled back the curtain on the next chapter of the Control universe. Titled Control Resonant, the sequel debuted during The Game Awards 2025 as a melee-focused action-RPG. Shifting the spotlight away from Jesse Faden, the story headlines her brother, Dylan, and moves the supernatural conflict into a fractured, surrealist rendition of Manhattan. The title is scheduled to arrive in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Mac, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Manhattan distorted in Control Resonant

The cinematic reveal opens within the familiar, clinical depths of The Oldest House, the Federal Bureau of Control’s enigmatic headquarters. However, the scope quickly expands beyond those shifting walls. Outside, Manhattan has been contorted into a kaleidoscopic labyrinth of folding skyscrapers and impossible geometries, reminiscent of the reality-bending visuals in Inception. In a pivotal moment, Jesse Faden is shown plunging a strange, metallic shard into her unconscious brother, Dylan.

This object is revealed to be “the Apparent,” a shapeshifting melee weapon that Dylan will wield to combat the Hiss infestation as the game’s primary protagonist. Unlike the Service Weapon’s firearm focus, Dylan’s arsenal emphasizes close-quarters supernatural combat.

Narratively, Control Resonant picks up seven years after the events of the original game. While the 2019 title concluded with Jesse as the new Director containing the Hiss within the Bureau, the status quo has since shattered. Jesse has mysteriously vanished, the lockdown on The Oldest House has failed, and the Hiss have hemorrhaged into the streets of New York, warping the city into a signature Remedy dreamscape.

During a behind-the-scenes preview, Creative Director Mikael Kasurinen described the sequel as an “open-ended” experience rather than a traditional open world. He emphasized the shift to the action-RPG genre, noting that Control Resonant will offer deeper progression systems and “distinctive builds” that allow players to tailor Dylan’s supernatural abilities to their specific playstyles.

While the tonal shift toward melee combat and urban exploration marks a departure for the franchise, the trailer confirms that the series’ atmospheric, Lynchian identity remains intact. Fans can expect to dive back into the Oldest House’s expanded nightmare when Control Resonant launches in 2026.
