Gamers Nexus warns that RAM and NAND flash prices have climbed to “absurd” levels, a trend that will soon drive up the cost of electronics. The YouTube channel Moore’s Law is Dead brought in former Micron engineer Dave Egleston for his analysis.
He attributes the sharp price surge to overwhelming demand for HBM chips, purchased in large volumes by companies building generative AI systems — including OpenAI. Manufacturers are struggling to keep up.
Egleston rejects claims that Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix are deliberately inflating prices. Gamers Nexus, however, has flagged a possible “three-corporation collusion,” pointing to Micron’s retreat from the consumer market.
According to Egleston’s forecast, RAM and NAND flash prices are unlikely to normalize before mid-2027. That delay could ripple through hardware release schedules. Sony may postpone the PS6 launch, which leaks have suggested for 2027. Rising VRAM costs will also affect GPUs: the NVIDIA RTX 50 Super lineup may have been canceled, and the RTX 60 series is likely to be delayed.
