The sci-fi epic Project Hail Mary makes its global theatrical debut this week, with box office analysts forecasting a massive $100 million worldwide opening.
Approximately $60 million of that total is expected to come from North American audiences, where the film is set to premiere on 4,000 screens. Some industry experts believe the feature has the potential to significantly outperform these initial projections.
Starring Ryan Gosling, the film is an adaptation of the hit novel by Andy Weir, the acclaimed author of The Martian. The story follows a middle-school teacher who becomes humanity’s last hope to prevent a global apocalypse. Directed by the duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (21 Jump Street), the production has already earned rave reviews, currently holding a stellar 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
