During the latest Pokémon Presents showcase, The Pokémon Company unveiled a nostalgic new peripheral: a dedicated music player modeled after the classic Game Boy. Designed specifically to celebrate the iconic soundtracks of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue, this retro-inspired device uses a unique, tactile system to play back the series’ most beloved chiptune melodies.
The player comes equipped with 45 individual mini-cartridges, each corresponding to a specific track from the original Game Boy titles. When a cartridge is inserted into the replica, the device not only broadcasts the audio but also displays a matching static image in the screen window, mirroring the in-game environment associated with the music.

Junichi Masuda, the legendary composer of the original 151-Pokémon era, spoke during the presentation about the technical goals of the project. He emphasized that the development team went to great lengths to ensure the audio output accurately replicates the distinct, 8-bit sound profile of the original hardware. “We took particular care to make the audio sound just like the Game Boy, so I hope you enjoy listening while swapping out cartridges,” Masuda noted.
Fans looking to secure this piece of Nintendo history can find the Pokémon Red and Blue Game Music Collection available today as an exclusive through the Pokémon Center.
