Roughly half a year after its debut, Pokémon Legends: Z-A is finally preparing to bridge the gap with Pokémon Home. This week’s scheduled update will enable trainers to migrate their long-time companions from legacy titles into the urban sprawl of Lumiose City. However, this connectivity suite includes several critical restrictions and technical caveats that players must navigate before moving their collection.
As expected, transfers are limited to species already documented within the Pokémon Legends: Z-A Pokédex. Adhering to the standard established by recent Nintendo Switch entries, data migration is strictly unidirectional for certain paths. For instance, while a Totodile sourced within Legends: Z-A can be stored in Pokémon Home, it is ineligible for transfer into Pokémon Scarlet or Violet.
The same logic applies to legacy Pokémon brought into the new environment. Once a creature travels from an older generation into Legends: Z-A, its path back to its origin is permanently severed. If you relocate a Galarian Slowpoke from Pokémon Sword or Shield into this latest adventure, it can never return to the Galar region.
Pokémon Home is slated for a maintenance window starting Wednesday, April 1, at 8 p.m. EST to facilitate the update. The service is expected to remain offline for approximately 12 hours. Once the servers are restored, the transfer gates will officially open—just be certain of your choices, as these migrations are irreversible.
Since its release last October, Pokémon Legends: Z-A has garnered attention for evolving the series’ core mechanics, specifically through its implementation of real-time combat. However, despite these innovations, the core experience remains deeply rooted in familiar territory. While the December 2025 expansion introduced the spectacle of New Mega Evolution battles, the Mega Dimension DLC ultimately feels somewhat hollow, as much of the supplemental content is overshadowed by repetitive grinding.
