Pokémon Champions Launches Next Month on Switch and Switch 2; Starter Bundle Unveiled

Pokémon Champions arriving on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2

The Pokémon Company and Nintendo have officially confirmed that their upcoming competitive online title, Pokémon Champions, is set to arrive on the Nintendo Switch family of systems next month. Specifically, the game will debut on Wednesday, April 8. Owners of the “Switch 2” will also receive a dedicated day-one update designed to enhance the experience with significantly sharper visual fidelity and optimized performance.

To coincide with the launch, developer The Pokémon Works will offer a Pokémon Champions + Starter Pack Bundle. While the core game remains free-to-play for all users, this optional bundle provides immediate digital perks, including expanded Pokémon storage capacity, exclusive battle themes, and various in-game resources to jumpstart your competitive journey.

Mobile trainers can expect Pokémon Champions to land on iOS and Android devices later this year, featuring full cross-platform play to ensure a unified player base. The game also boasts comprehensive integration with Pokémon Home, enabling players to field teams from across the franchise’s history. While transfers from Pokémon GO are a one-way trip, players can freely deposit and withdraw their companions from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

The strategic landscape is also getting a major update through revamped Mega Evolutions. According to the latest details, several Pokémon will wield entirely new Abilities in the arena. Mega Meganium introduces “Mega Sol,” an Ability that allows it to execute moves as if the weather were set to harsh sunlight. Mega Emboar utilizes “Mold Breaker,” ensuring its offensive strikes ignore the defensive Abilities of its targets. Meanwhile, Mega Feraligatr gains “Dragonize,” a potent trait that converts all Normal-type moves into Dragon-type attacks while granting them a 20% power increase.

Upon its April 8 release, Pokémon Champions will offer both Ranked and Casual Battle modes, catering to both hardcore tacticians and those looking for a relaxed competitive experience.
