Players Died 515,000 Times Testing Soulslike Valor Mortis — One Boss Became a True Nightmare

The open playtests for the soulslike Valor Mortis from One More Level — the studio behind the Ghostrunner series — have concluded. The developers published gameplay statistics.

During the tests players defeated 3,000,000 enemies, while suffering 515,000 deaths themselves. The boss with the highest death toll was called Lotar: players attempted to beat him 226,000 times, 209,000 of those attempts ended in failure, and the boss was felled only 14,000 times.

The second-most lethal foe was Fenser. Of 215,000 attempts to overcome him, players died 188,000 times and claimed victory just 22,000 times. The totals are lower than the number of attempts because some players abandoned fights before they finished.

Valor Mortis is slated to launch on PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PS5 in 2026.
