StudioCanal, Heyday Films, and the Astrid Lindgren Company have announced the production of a brand-new animated series based on the iconic Pippi Longstocking stories. This project aims to offer a fresh, contemporary reimagining of the classic literary works penned by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren.
Production is scheduled to commence this October. The inaugural season will feature 52 episodes, each with an 11-minute runtime. The creative team is committed to preserving the whimsical spirit of the original tales while updating the red-haired heroine’s escapades for a modern audience and today’s digital streaming landscape.
First published in 1945, the Pippi Longstocking books have been translated into dozens of languages, boasting total sales of over 65 million copies worldwide. While the chronicles of the world’s strongest girl have seen numerous screen adaptations over the decades, this upcoming series marks the character’s first significant international revival in recent years.
