Paramount+ Begins Search for Writers for Next Era of Star Trek
Paramount+ has begun discussions with multiple writers to map out the next television chapter of the Star Trek franchise as its current slate winds down.
Jane Wiseman, Head of Originals at the streaming service, told Deadline that the platform is collaborating closely with CBS Studios to find a new creative direction for the brand:
“Our ambition and our job is to figure out what the next phase of Star Trek is. We’re in conversations with a lot of writers and leaning on CBS Studios. We need to figure out what the next chapter of the franchise is because it’s too important.”
None of the potential pitches have received a production greenlight yet. Paramount+ has not settled on an era, setting, cast of characters, or creative team for the next show, making any estimate on release windows premature.

The search for a new series comes as the current lineup prepares to conclude. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will end after a shortened fifth season consisting of six episodes, while Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is set to end after its second season. Once those shows finish their runs, Paramount+ currently has no other announced Star Trek series in the pipeline.
Separately, Paramount Pictures is developing a feature film featuring new characters. John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the filmmaking duo behind Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, will write, direct, and produce the movie. That theatrical project is moving forward independently of the streaming series discussions at Paramount+.
