Overwatch reaches its decade-long milestone this May, and Blizzard Entertainment is marking the occasion by showering players with a trove of complimentary rewards. Highlights include 21 exclusive “Launch Hero” skins, giving the original roster—those available before Ana’s 2016 debut—a striking purple-themed aesthetic.
The celebration continues with 15 Anniversary loot boxes, along with weekly opportunities to earn Legendary loot boxes via community-focused challenges. According to Monday’s announcement, players can also claim 33 community and developer-designed 2D cosmetics, plus five distinct weapon charms, including one commemorating the 10th anniversary. This celebratory event is scheduled to run from May 12 through June 1.
We will provide further updates as Blizzard unveils visuals and comprehensive details regarding these anniversary cosmetics.
While many fans are appreciative of the gifts marking the game’s first ten years, some have voiced frustration, noting that the global rewards pale in comparison to the offerings available to the Chinese player base this month. In China, players receive an extensive haul including 40 Legendary skins, nine Mythic skins, and loot boxes stocked with Mythic Prisms, additional Legendary items, and in-game currency.
Furthermore, Chinese players are gaining access to a set of region-exclusive cosmetics, including a particularly noteworthy Ramattra skin that takes inspiration from domestic chores.
It is worth noting that NetEase, rather than Blizzard, manages Overwatch operations within China, giving the developer limited authority over regional releases. Given that Chinese players endured a significant content drought following the 2022 dissolution of the partnership between NetEase and Blizzard, these exclusive incentives are, for many, a way to address that extended gap in support.
For now, players worldwide can look forward to the 10th-anniversary event content, which begins rolling out with Tuesday’s weekly game update.
Overwatch is currently playable on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. The latest season, which launched in April, introduced the new Damage hero, Sierra, to the lineup.
