WIT Studio studied Eiichiro Oda’s art style closely to update the iconic anime.
The upcoming Netflix and WIT Studio remake of One Piece moves toward its release. Following a recent teaser, franchise insider @pewpiece shared a statement from character designer and animation director Kyoji Asano.
Asano explains that the team prioritized translating the original manga visuals to the screen.
The team builds this adaptation from scratch to avoid the pacing issues of the original series—where one episode often covered just one manga chapter. This approach creates a faster, more accessible story for modern viewers.
Netflix premieres the remake in February 2027. The first season packs 50 chapters of the manga into 7 episodes. The story begins with the East Blue saga, following Monkey D. Luffy as he recruits his crew. The season covers events up to the Baratie floating restaurant arc, where Sanji joins the Straw Hat Pirates.
