Olivia Rodrigo’s groundbreaking all-women music festival, Daisy Chain Fields, received an extraordinary financial boost when philanthropist Melinda French Gates stepped in with a staggering multimillion-dollar contribution.

Following the festival’s initial announcement on Friday, August 28, that it had successfully generated $10 million for philanthropic causes dedicated to women, French Gates generously matched the figure, doubling the grand total to an impressive $20 million.

“What Daisy Chain Fields set in motion will last far beyond a single night,” French Gates shared via Instagram alongside a snapshot featuring herself and Rodrigo. “I was so deeply inspired by Olivia Rodrigo’s visionary leadership. Consequently, I am immensely proud to contribute $10 million through Pivotal, doubling the remarkable sum this dedicated community already raised for organizations championing women and girls.”

During her electrifying headlining performance on Saturday night, August 29, at the Great Park in Irvine, California, the 23-year-old pop sensation welcomed French Gates to the stage to personally announce the monumental pledge.

“Melinda stands among the most profoundly inspiring leaders I have ever encountered. She has dedicated her existence to empowering women and girls who might otherwise be marginalized,” Rodrigo told the rapturous audience. “She is remarkably generous, courageous, and has catalyzed immense good across the globe. I am completely overwhelmed with gratitude because, alongside gracing us with her presence tonight, she has pledged to match every dollar we generated today, elevating our total donation pool to an astounding $20 million. I am endlessly thankful!”

The coalition of beneficiary organizations set to receive funding from the festival’s initial $10 million milestone includes Baby2Baby, the Black Mamas Matter Alliance, the Center for Reproductive Rights, FreeFrom, Jhpiego, the Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health, the National Domestic Workers Alliance, the National Institute for Reproductive Health, the National Women’s Law Center, and Planned Parenthood.

During a press briefing on Friday, Rodrigo originally disclosed that the single-day event had crossed the $10-million threshold for its chosen charities. Throughout the concert, she also extended heartfelt appreciation to the entire artist lineup for graciously donating their performances.

Rodrigo personally curated the stellar roster, which featured performances by Chappell Roan, Doechii, Mitski, Garbage, The Breeders, and Bikini Kill, alongside surprise special guest appearances from rock and roll royalty Stevie Nicks and singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan.
