Olivia Rodrigo appears to be orchestrating a major reveal to commemorate the upcoming five-year milestone of her career-defining debut, “Drivers License.” On Monday, January 5, the pop phenomenon overhauled her official website, replacing its standard interface with an enigmatic submission portal that has sent fans into a frenzy of speculation.

The site currently features a stylized, faux renewal application issued by the “Department of Driving Home 2 U.” This digital document invites followers to register their contact information for future correspondence. Notably, the “appointment information” section points toward a specific window: January 8 at 9 a.m. PT. This timing is significant, marking the exact five-year anniversary of the day “Drivers License” first arrived in 2021 and fundamentally altered the pop music landscape.

Devoted listeners also spotted a subtle tribute to her debut studio album, Sour. The form lists a specific “file number”—05212021—which corresponds directly to the record’s release date of May 21, 2021.

It is difficult to overstate the impact of Rodrigo’s meteoric rise half a decade ago. “Drivers License” didn’t just debut at the summit of the Billboard Hot 100; it commanded the No. 1 spot for eight consecutive weeks. That momentum carried through to her second chart-topper, “Good 4 U,” and her debut LP, Sour, which dominated the Billboard 200 for five weeks. Her critical acclaim followed suit, earning her Grammy Awards for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance.

Since that initial whirlwind, Rodrigo has been selective with her output, releasing her sophomore effort, Guts, in 2023. While 2025 began with fans hungry for a third era, she has largely remained quiet since dropping five additional tracks for the Guts (Spilled) deluxe edition in March 2024. Most recently, she treated fans to a live recording, Live from Glastonbury (A BBC Recording), which arrived on December 5.

Despite the lack of new studio material, Rodrigo has clarified that her creative process is ongoing. During her Guts World Tour—which concluded last summer—she shared that songwriting remains her primary emotional outlet. “Writing songs is really therapeutic for me, so I’m always noodling around making stuff even when I’m not in the studio,” she noted, adding that she is currently prioritizing a natural flow over the pressure of deadlines.
