Olivia Rodrigo was world famous and ready to perform in front of thousands from the moment she released her debut single, “Drivers License” two years ago. But for her recent Vevo Live performance, the 20-year-old star got the chance to rock out in a dirty basement with her band as if she were just another aspiring college-aged songwriter.
For the second of her two Vevo performances so far, Rodrigo channeled all the punk influences present on her sophomore album Guts by belting out her single “Get Him Back!” in a dimly lit basement covered with grungy posters and bare pipes. “I wanna get him back/ I wanna make him really jealous, wanna make him feel bad,” she sang, grinning and dancing with her band.
The Grammy winner’s “Get Him Back!” performance arrived Monday (Dec. 18), three days after the first of her Vevo original performances — “All-American Bitch” — dropped on her YouTube channel. Wearing a sparkly blue dress, Rodrigo raised the roof in an abandoned theater while singing the Guts opening track and let several screams loose while laying on the stage floor toward the end.
The videos for Vevo come just a couple months ahead of Rodrigo’s first ever arena tour, which kicks off in February and will see the former Disney star traveling through North America and Europe. In rehearsing for the trek, Rodrigo recently discovered that she’s outgrown some of the songs on her debut album Sour, telling the Los Angeles Times last week: “Some of them I don’t really love so much anymore.”
