Officials Target Rockstar: British Authorities Call GTA VI Developer Layoffs “Troubling”

Keir Starmer has pledged government intervention.

The controversy surrounding Rockstar North — the company’s Scottish studio — was raised again in the UK Parliament, where Prime Minister Keir Starmer pledged government intervention over the dismissals of Grand Theft Auto VI developers.

Labour MP Chris Murray, who represents Edinburgh and Musselburgh — the constituency that hosts Rockstar North — addressed Starmer. Murray said the company had dismissed 31 employees without evidence and without union representation.

Representatives from Rockstar have failed to convince me that they are complying with employment law.
Chris Murray, MP.

Starmer said he found the situation “deeply troubling” and vowed to get to the bottom of it.

This is a deeply troubling case. Every worker has the right to join a trade union, and we are determined to strengthen workers’ rights so they do not face unfair repercussions for union activity. Ministers will investigate this specific matter.
Keir Starmer, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

The scandal erupted at the end of October, when Rockstar abruptly dismissed around 35 employees from its UK and Canadian offices — all of whom were members or supporters of the IWGB. The company cited “gross misconduct” for “sharing confidential information on a public forum.” The union and the dismissed workers denied these claims, saying the alleged “leak” occurred on a private Discord server set up four years ago exclusively for Rockstar staff interested in unionising and IWGB representatives. All participants were vetted.
